Copper Brassie
Return to Guadalupe River Hatch Chart.

Brassie Nymph

The brassie is a very effective imitation for caddis pupae (#16-#18) and midge pupae (#18-#22). Weighted with copper wire, it quickly sinks making it especially useful when fishing deep as a dropper fly.

Tying Instructions

Thread 6/0 Black
Hook Curved Nymph
Size #16-#22
Body Fine Copper Wire (Copper, Red or Green)
Abdomen Peacock Herl
  1. Smash barb and place hook in vise.
  2. Cut a three to four inch piece of fine copper wire.
  3. Using tight turns, wrap middle of wire around the of the hook.
  4. Clip wire closest to bend. Push wire coill down to were bend begins.
  5. Continue wrapping wire almost to eye of hook. Cut wire.
  6. Wrap thread around copper wire near eye.
  7. Tie in two to three strands of peacock herl by butts. Clip butts.
  8. Wrap thread to eye.
  9. Wrap peacock herl to eye.
  10. Tie off herl and cut off ends.
  11. Whip-finish head and cement.
